Electrical Safety at Home

There could be hidden electrical hazards in your home - be sure to take some time to educate yourself on how to spot these potential electrical hazards.

Check regularly for new or potential hazards and hire a Licensed Electrical Contractor (LEC) to complete electrical work when needed.

Become familiar with your home's electrical equipment. The Electrical Safety Authority suggests a few common signs you may that could signal a potential hazard:

  • Dim, flickering or surging lights
  • Fuses that constantly blow or breakers that often trip
  • Outlets that don't work when the fuse is replaced or breaker is reset
  • Switches or fuses that are hot to the touch (turn them off immediately)
